Lesson 1: Home Protection for Beginners
Your home is your sanctuary, and just like you wouldn’t leave your front door wide open for just anyone to walk in, you shouldn’t leave your energy unprotected either. Spiritual protection is simple, effective, and something you can do with things you probably already have. So, let’s get into it.
Cleansing & Warding Basics
Floor Washes
Floor washes are one of the easiest ways to remove stagnant or negative energy from your home. You don’t need anything fancy—just a solid intention and a few household ingredients.
Step 1: The Floor Wash
Physically Clean First – Grab your broom and sweep the floor as usual. But this isn’t just about dust and dirt. As you sweep, visualize that you’re clearing out anything that doesn’t belong—stress, arguments, bad vibes, whatever.
Energetic Sweeping – If you have a back door, sweep all that energy out of it. If not, move toward the main exit. You’re making space for better energy.
Make Your Herbal Wash
Fill a pot with water and add some protective herbs. Here are some easy-to-find options:
Cinnamon – Wards off negativity, brings in abundance (to keep it cute use the sticks)
Clove – Banishing, purification
Rosemary – Protection, clarity
Garlic or Onion Skins – Classic folk magic protection
Juniper – Strong spiritual defense
Bring it to a boil, stirring clockwise while setting your intention. If you work with deities or spirits, invite them to bless the herbs.
Mop & Seal Your Space – Add the infused water to your mop bucket and clean the floors, following the same path you swept. If you have any left over, dip a cloth in it and wipe down your windows and doorways—just hit the seals since herbs can make glass cloudy.
Call in the Good Energy – Now that you’ve made space, fill the void. Say aloud what you’re inviting in—protection, peace, abundance, love. Whatever you need.
Doorway & Window Protection
Doors and windows are entry points, both physically and energetically. You want to lock those down.
Sigils & Herbal Barriers
Draw a protective sigil on your doors and windows. You can make your own or use a symbol that resonates with you—runes, pentacles, the evil eye, whatever works for your practice.
Activate the sigil by saying:
"This sigil is charged to keep negativity out and only allow in blessings." Make that statement your own. It will have more power.
You can also envision it glowing with power.
Use Red Brick Dust or Protective Herbs – Sprinkling red brick dust, crushed eggshells, or a bit of your herbal wash along doorways and windows reinforces the barrier. These are done on the outside of the windows and doors. We just swept and mopped after all.
Household Spirits & Home Guardians
Your home isn’t just a building—it has an energy of its own. Strengthen that energy by working with protective spirits.
Name Your Home – Talk to it, build a relationship with it. A home with a name listens and will talk back.
Invite in Protective Spirits – Some people work with ancestors, house fae, or even guardian spirits that naturally gravitate to a well-protected space. Research before you invite anyone in—spirits demand respect.
Empower Your Houseplants – Certain plants, like aloe, rosemary, or snake plants, naturally absorb negative energy. You can wake them up by speaking to them and charging them with protection.
Walk Your Perimeter – Walk the boundary of your home while visualizing a protective shield forming around it. Picture intruders and bad energy feeling uneasy and turning away. You’re making your home invisible to those who mean harm.
Fire Magic for Protection
A candle spell can reinforce everything you’ve done so far. You’ll need:
A black 7-day candle or an image candle (like St. Michael, Mother Mary, or another protective figure)
Protective herbs and oils (same ones from the floor wash)
A pin or knife to carve your intention into the wax
How to Do It
Dress the Candle – Carve protective symbols or your name or your home address or all of the above into the wax. Anoint it with oil (not too much you don’t want to drown the wick) and sprinkle it with protective herbs also not to much. The more botanicals you add the hotter the flame.
Charge It Up – Hold the candle, focus on your intention, and say:
"This flame stands guard over my home. Only love and safety may enter here." Again, use your own words. Speak from the heart.
Light & Observe – Burn the candle for 7 days. If the flame flickers a lot, that could mean it’s actively deflecting something.
Final Thoughts
Protection isn’t just about keeping bad things/people out—it’s about creating a space where you feel safe, strong, and in control. Do this regularly, and you’ll notice a shift in your home’s energy.
